Elon Musk Twitter News: One of Elon Musk’s major objectives at Twitter is to enable encrypted messaging on the social media platform. In what is termed as Twitter 2.0 project, Musk is said to have informed employees about the plan to implement encrypted DMs. Reports suggested that Musk wants to also enable encrypted video and voice calling between individual users. In this context, it appears Twitter is making use of the Signal protocol to implement the encrypted messaging service.

Signal Protocol To Power Twitter Encrypted DMs?

In a latest, security researchers hint at finding code references of the Signal protocol in Twitter’s software. Jane Manchun Wong, a digital creator, said the social media platform is moving in the direction of adopting Signal for encrypted DMs. If this comes to be true, it could mean a significant step as part of Musk’s plans. Interestingly, Meta’s Facebook Messenger has also been using the Signal protocol since 2016.

No Room For Data Breach

Earlier, The Verge reported that Musk told twitter employees of his vision to cut users the slack of worrying about their privacy. He reportedly outlined plans to enable messaging without data breach concerns. Users should not be thinking that someone at Twitter could be spying on their DMs, the report said. However, experts suggest implementing encrypted messaging on Twitter will not be an easy task.

Alec Muffett, who worked on Meta’s end-to-end encryption system for Messenger, raised his reservations citing challeneges faced by the Mark Zuckerberg company. The Facebook Messenger integration of Signal protocol took 18 months, he was quoted as saying in a CyberScoop report.
